Main Resorts

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and most developed resort — a long coastline of varied beaches from the wild surf of Kata to the calm waters of Bang Tao, plus the lively Patong strip with its restaurants, night bazaars, and beach clubs. The Andaman Sea's limestone karst scenery visible from Phuket's western viewpoints is breathtaking.

Krabi (Ao Nang, Railay Beach) is where the postcard shots come from: sheer limestone cliffs plunging into turquoise water, longtail boats threading between islands, and hidden beaches accessible only by boat. Railay Beach — car-free and surrounded by cliffs — is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand is calmer and more refined than Phuket: a lush interior, the famous Big Buddha, and a crescent of palm-lined beaches including the picture-perfect Chaweng.

Bangkok is not a beach resort but a world capital of street food, ornate temples, rooftop bars, and luxury shopping malls — a city that overwhelms and exhilarates in equal measure.

What to See & Do

  • Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok — the dazzling royal complex at the heart of the capital; the Emerald Buddha is Thailand's most sacred image
  • Phi Phi Islands — a day trip from Phuket to the turquoise lagoon of Maya Bay (of The Beach fame) and the cliffs of Ko Phi Phi Leh
  • Elephant sanctuary, Chiang Mai — ethical elephant experiences where visitors bathe and feed rescued working elephants; heartwarming and responsible
  • Chiang Mai Night Bazaar & Old City — northern Thailand's cultural capital with a moat-surrounded old town, hundreds of Buddhist temples, and the best street-food markets in the country
  • Diving & snorkelling — Similan Islands, Koh Tao, and the Hin Daeng pinnacle offer some of the world's best diving; whale sharks are regularly spotted

Best Time to Visit

November – April is the dry season and the best time to visit most of Thailand: clear skies, calm seas, and temperatures around 28–32 °C. Peak season is December–January.

May – October is the monsoon season on the Andaman Coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) — expect heavy rain and rough seas. Koh Samui and the Gulf of Thailand have their dry season from January–August.
